Overview
Andorra la Vella is the capital of Andorra. It is regarded as the 5th smallest capital in Europe with a population size of approximately 22,000 people (The Vatican City being the smallest capital with 800 people). However, it’s also known to be the highest elevated capital in Europe with an altitude of 1023 metres above sea level. The main attractions of the town comprises of its duty-free shopping and the Caldea. The Caldea is the town’s Thermal Spa Centre. It’s known to be the largest Spa Centre in Southern Europe at 30,000 square metres. The capital has many daytrips that are worth exploring; this includes the regions of Canillo, La Massana, and Ordino. The region of Canillo has the ski resort ‘Grandvalira’, which is the largest in Andorra. The region of La Massana has the ‘Church of Sant Climent de Pal’, which is the oldest church in the country. And finally, the region of Ordino has the ski resort ‘Arcalis’, which is the smallest in Andorra. The ‘Caldea’ is the town’s Thermal Spa Centre. The site opened in 1994, and it’s currently the biggest Spa Centre in Southern Europe at 30,000 square metres. The Centre is organised around 4 spas, and it includes Jacuzzis and Hydro massage jets.
12km North-East from Andorra la Vella. The Region contains Romanesque Churches, the best viewpoint of Andorra, and adventure activities. The main churches are ‘Sant Joan de Caselles’, and the ‘Basilica of Meritxell’. Sant Joan de Caselles is a 12th century cathedral, with a beautiful bell tower. ‘Basilica of Meritxel’ is the most important religious landmark in Andorra, which commemorates the patron saint of the nation ‘Santa Maria de Meritxell’. The ‘Mirador de Canillo’ is a viewpoint, which provides stunning views of the valleys, mountain peaks, and rural settlements, at an altitude of 2000 metres. The viewpoint has a 20 metre walkway, of which 12 metres of it stretches into the scenery. At the end of the walkway, is a sculpture of a man sitting on a ledge and observing the landscape (the ‘Ponderer’). At the Mont Magic Family Park, you’ll find the longest Zip-line in Andorra. The Zip-line is 550 metres long, at a top height of 20 metres, and with speeds of 80km. The biggest attraction of the region and the country is the Grandvalira ski resort. The ski resort is the largest in Andorra, and it’s the 18th largest in Europe. Elevations range from 1710 – 2640m. The resort has 210km of slopes and 64 lifts.

The ‘La Roca de la Sabina’ is a viewpoint, which provides amazing views of the village of Arinsal, at an altitude of 1900 metres. The village of Pal, is regarded as the best preserved village of Andorra. The town is also renown as having the oldest church in the country (late 11th century), which is the ‘Church of Sant Climent de Pal’. The second largest ski resort of the country is ‘Pal-Arinsal’. Elevations range from 1550 – 2650m. The resort has 63km of slopes and 23 lifts.
