The regional capital of Southern Bohemia [6].

The town contains a labyrinth of narrow lanes and winding alleyways [6].

The main attraction is the Budweiser Budvar Brewery [6].

This brewery is where the original Budweiser beer was born [6].

[expand title=””]

It has a daily tour at 2pm [6].

The town also contains a main square, which is the broadest plaza in the country (one of the largest in Europe), spanning at 133m [6].

The plaza contains a mix of arcaded buildings that surrounds the square with a fountain in the middle, the ‘samson’s fountain’ [6].

The most notable building is the black tower, which is a 72m gothic renaissance tower that was built in 1553 [6].

You can climb the 225 steps for stunning views [6].

The tower also contains two bells: the marta (1723) and the budvar (1995), which are both rung at noon [6].

A chateau that was built by the Premsyl rulers in the 13th century [6].

Is a very popular destination amongst the Czechs as it’s the second most-visited chateau in Bohemia [6].

Tabor is regarded as the spiritual movement of the 15th century radical wing of the Hussites [6].

Its history can be traced back to the 15th century, in which the Catholic authorities infamously burned at the stake the religious reformer Jan Hus, in Konstanz Germany 1415 [6].

Thus, most of the interesting sights are hussite-related [6].

The town square (Jan Zizka) is surrounded by gothic, renaissance, and baroque houses, with the middle having a fountain (1567), and an impressive statue of the hussite leader Jan Zizka [6].

[expand title=””]

There’s also two stone tables which are used for religious services [6].

The main attraction is the Hussite Museum, which was the building of the original town hall [6].

The museum provides the origins and the history of the Hussite movement in the Czech republic [6].

Furthermore, you’ll also find the entrance to underground tunnels below the old town of Tabor [6].

The underground is a 650m stretch of passages, which can only be viewed by a tour [6].

These were constructed in the 15th century, as a refugee for fires and wars, yet were also used to store and mature beer [6].

The town has a castle, Kotnov castle, which was built in the 12th century, making it the oldest site in Tabor [6].

However, in 1532, it was destroyed by a fire [6].

In the 17th century, its ruins from the fire was transformed into a brewery [6].

The remnants of the castle’s tower can be climbed for stunning views of the town [6].

Known by the Czechs for its many fishponds and its production of Carp, which is consumed by the people on Christmas eve [6].

The main attraction is the Trebon Chateau, which includes a museum that displays furniture and weapons [6].

The castle was built in 1611 by the Rozmberk family, as a previous gothic castle was destroyed by a fire [6].

However, it eventually became the main residence for the Schwarzenbergs [6].

The Schwarzenbergs have their own grand neo-gothic mausoleum, which dates from 1887 [6].

Cesky Krumlov Experience

Cesky Krumlov is known as the fairy-tale village of the Czech Republic. Its castle situated above the town, provides a stunning backdrop to the vibrant town centre. In my euro trip, Cesky was the first destination of my Czech travels. I took a bus from Linz, Austria, and was amazed by the beauty of the town. It definitely was a great introduction to the country. Second to Prague, Cesky is the most the visited destination in Czech, and I could see how this is true, as this was my second favourite place in this relatively small nation. To visit the town, it’s best to start at the town’s gate, and then to wander through the labyrinth of cobbled roads. The buildings surrounding the walkways are decorated elegantly in various colours, which you’ll find is a common theme in the country. You then want to make your way up to the castle. On the way there, you’ll find a ‘bear exhibit’, which was quite random, and for others may be a controversial site. Once you pass the exhibit, you then want to ascend to the castle’s entrance and lookout area. This is the best spot for photos and taking the town in. Overall, I enjoyed my experience of this picturesque village, and I believe this destination is a must see if you visit the country, or if you’re within the area
